I research and write on the Soviet Union, post-Soviet space, modern Ukraine, Russian-Ukrainian relations, and the Russo-Ukrainian war. 

 

My first book, BY THE SECOND SPRING (forthcoming May 20, 2025 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux), charts the paths of seven Ukrainians through Russia’s war on Ukraine. 

 

I completed my PhD in History at Harvard University.
